چکیده

Ž . Ž . Four-dimensional 4D or time-lapse three-dimensional 3D ground penetrating radar surveys can be used to monitor and image subsurface fluid flow. This information can be used to create a model of hydrogeological properties. The massive amount of data, which is present in and can possibly be generated from 4D GPR data sets, precludes a manual interpretation. Consequently, 4D data sets have to be processed and visualized in a way that extracts models and allows for data visualization in a semi-automatic way. The principles behind such an approach are applied to the Borden data set, which is used to demonstrate how advanced visualization can assist in the interpretation of raw and processed data. In the Borden data set, changes in reflectivity between different time-steps unveil areas of fluid migration in three dimensions. The combination Ž . of these reflectivity changes between different combinations of the 3D subsets of the 4D data set is used to create a model of hydrogeological properties. While this model does not yield a quantitative description of porosity, permeability or hydraulic conductivity, it is a qualitative proxy for a combination of these properties. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Ground Penetrating Radar (gpr) Analysis of Soil Moisture within Different Landuses in an Agriculture Landscape, in Georgia, Us

Soil moisture is a critical process in the water cycle and its assessment is of paramount importance to forecast changes in the water balance of a region. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology overcomes the limitations of point data by producing a tridimensional view of subsurface characteristics with a large economy of time, logistic, data processing and analysis. The purpose of this resea...

Advanced Inversion Techniques for Ground Penetrating Radar

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems are nowadays standard inspection tools in several application areas, such as subsurface prospecting, civil engineering and cultural heritage monitoring. Usually, the raw output of GPR is provided as a B-scan, which has to be further processed in order to extract the needed information about the inspected scene. In this framework, inverse-scattering-based a...

Ground Penetrating Radar for Environmental Applications

■ Abstract Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a near-surface geophysical technique that can provide high resolution images of the dielectric properties of the top few tens of meters of the earth. In applications in contaminant hydrology, radar data can be used to detect the presence of liquid organic contaminants, many of which have dielectric properties distinctly different from those of the ot...
